The Unexpected Gifts of Sobriety is a photography/ interview project that will be shown in galleries worldwide and published in a coffee table book.
Details: I’m photographing celebrated actors, directors, musicians, artists, choreographers, authors, speakers, dancers who happen to be sober. The photographs will accompany written conversations between the two of us as well as recorded and released on my podcast.
My question for each of them “ What are the unexpected gifts of sobriety” and “what would you say to someone who currently suffering from addiction”
This project grew from my own story. I got sober on August 18th, 1987 from a crystal meth addiction and have been continuously sober ever since having just celebrated 34 years of recovery. My goal is to create opportunities to connect with people who are still suffering by planting seeds of hope from people they admire. Rarely do we seek help until we are ready. My intention is to plant and water some seeds that grow into potential life lines for more personal freedom from the depths of addiction.
I’m using my 4x5 large format camera and Tri-X film along with New55 film for this body of work. Professional, museum quality archival photographs will be printed in limited editions. The book will be published and available on my website.
The list is LONG of the people I would like to be a part of this project.
So far I’ve photographed:
Wesley Geer
Jeff Kober
I’ll be posting sample images here as we go.
I’m considering a kickstarter to fund this project and help with film, developing and printing and publishing costs.
If you have connections with anyone you feel would like to be a part of this project please have them connect with us at support@catherinejust.com.
If you’re interested in donating to cover costs you can do so here.
I’m so excited to get this project going even further and be of service to the addict who still suffers.
