A workshop with award winning photographer Catherine Just is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning how to really see & improve their photography with Paris as their backdrop.
Catherine’s experience as a female photographer, solo traveling extensively internationally, most often to Paris will give you the practical, spiritual and technical practices to travel confidently and create images from a deeper place inside your heart.
Catherine can help you with the art of observation and curiosity. She has a keen eye for capturing life as it unfolds, and she will share her insights into how she approaches capturing fleeting moments and unscripted scenes.
Another aspect of seeing that Catherine will teach you is the importance of understanding and respecting the French Culture. It’s one thing to roam the streets of Paris and create extraordinary photographs, it’s another to deeply honor where we are.
Not only will you be learning techniques that help you to create more potent images, you’ll also be learning about Paris from the inside out. Not just a tour book explanation, but personal experiences of travel in Paris and the people, places and experiences that make this city the place Catherine visits up to 3 times per year.
*The workshop involves a good amount of walking along cobblestone streets. Participants can expect to walk up to 5 miles a day. Please wear good, supportive walking shoes.
You’ll learn:
How to become curious and observe what’s right in front of you from a new point of view.
Finding the light, seeing light and shadow, paying attention to what the light is doing at different times of day and using that to your advantage.
Composition and how it relates to the emotion of an image.
Image editing. How to pick the “best” image.
Respecting the people and the culture that you’re in. Understanding the French Culture. How to Connect with it instead of just “taking photos”. Learn the difference between “taking” and “creating” photographs.
How to prepare for international travel. What to bring. What not to bring. How to get through security with your camera gear and more.
You’ll receive Catherine’s Paris Guide with her favorite places to visit. Cafe’s, Restaurants, Museums, Galleries, Boutique shops, etc.
Schedule:
Monday, June 10th:
5-6:30pm - Welcome Gathering, Meet & Greet with a Photography Presentation at Catherine’s apartment.
7pm - Welcome Dinner at a Favorite Restaurant near the apartment. TBA.
Tuesday, June 11th:
8am-12am – Photo Walk - Location TBA
12am-2pm – Break
2pm-4pm – Photo Walk - Location TBA
4pm-7pm – Break
7pm-9pm - Optional Photo Walk - Location TBA ( Most likely the Eiffel Tower )
Wednesday, June 12th:
8am-12pm - Meet for espresso at Catherine’s favorite cafe + Photo Walk - Location TBA
12am-2pm – Break
2:30pm-4:30pm - Review Images back at Catherine’s Apartment
5pm - Closing Dinner - Location TBD
A Zoom Session will be scheduled for 2 weeks after our workshop ends so we can go over your edited images even further and I can give each of you feedback moving forward with your work.
