The Stitched Heart. ©Catherine Just
This image symbolizes our shared experience of heartbreak and the resilience it takes to mend our hearts. It reflects the strength we gain as we stitch ourselves back together, emerging even stronger. When a collector purchases one of these limited-edition prints, I personally hand-stitch the red thread onto the piece, creating a tangible connection between our hearts.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the Alta Vista Arts group exhibition at the Milan Photo Fair this March. Your support will help me showcase transformative visual art that explores human connection to a broader international audience. I deeply believe that art is medicine—capable of healing and transforming lives. Together, we can bring the healing power of art to those who need it most.

“Chasing Fog : Learning How To Breathe”

My work delves into the delicate balance between presence and absence, exploring themes of intimacy, loss, and the unspoken connections that unite us. At the Milan Photo Fair, I’ll showcase a curated selection of one-of-a-kind Polaroid photographs from my ongoing series Chasing Fog: Learning How to Breathe, which transforms personal experiences into visual poems through self-portraiture, still life, and metaphor.

Using a vintage Polaroid SX-70 and hand-stitching red thread onto select pieces, I embrace the tactile, intimate qualities of analogue and handmade processes. These images, created during travels to Morocco, Paris, Italy, and my home in Los Angeles, each carry a story embedded within them.

With a 7-foot wall, this will be the largest collection of Polaroids I’ve exhibited from Chasing Fog. I plan to show 1-2 larger prints, including The Stitched Heart (pictured above), which embodies themes of heartbreak, resilience, and connection.

Timeline for Funding and Preparation

To ensure my work is ready in time for the Milan Photo Fair, I need to meet the following key deadlines:

  • Polaroid Framing: I need to get the Polaroids to the framer the week of January 27th, so your support will help me get them framed and ready for the exhibition.

  • Prints: I’ll be printing the larger photographs the week of January 27th, and the prints will need to go to the framer right after.

  • Flights & Accommodation: I need to book my flights and accommodations as soon as possible before prices rise.

  • Artwork Shipping: I must arrange the international shipping of the framed artwork as soon as the framing is completed.

  • Crating: Once the work is framed, I’ll need to crate it for transport.

  • Shipping Deadline: Artwork must be shipped by mid to late February to ensure it arrives on time and to allow for any potential delays at customs.

Every donation helps meet these vital steps and ensures the exhibition can happen smoothly.
Thank you for your generosity and support

About the Artist
Catherine Just is a Los Angeles-based visual artist whose work delves into the connection between the metaphysical and emotional realms. Her art practice reflects a deep curiosity about the human condition—exploring relationships, connection, intimacy, love, loss, and the spaces in-between words.

Catherine holds a BFA in Conceptual Photography, Film, and Video from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and apprenticed with Miguel Ruiz, Toltec Teacher from Mexico and author of The Four Agreements. Both experiences are integral to her artistic approach.

Her work has been featured on the cover of National Geographic Magazine, in O Magazine, and exhibited internationally in France, Australia, and the United States. Notable venues include Les Rencontres d'Arles, Chateau de LaLande, Newspace Center of Photography, OFFUS Gallery, and the Los Angeles Center of Photography.

The Milan Photo Fair marks Catherine's first exhibition in Italy, introducing her work to a fresh and diverse audience.

Catherine also teaches online courses, leads retreats in France, and offers photo sessions worldwide.
