Artist’s Statement
Rooted in recovery, self-exploration, inner landscapes, and transformation, I’m fascinated with the healing of old wounds, the transmutation of old stories, shifts in perception, seeing in hindsight how it all comes together, while holding space for the next iteration.
In these works, time collapses.
Past, present, and future meld.
Present here are snippets of artwork made over 2 decades, long ago dismissed, alongside images from the present, self portraits, tentatively taken, layered with collages piecing together visions for the future.
Through this creative play, the Universe sends me secret messages. And the meaning reveals itself after the fact, in the viewing, rather than in the making.
It has been revelatory.
I am meeting myself in a new way.
Some of what has emerged (an incomplete list):
A love letter to my inner shy girl.
Daydreaming my way into my next version. And loving exactly who I am right here, right now. Both/and.
The tension between the beautiful knowing and the mighty resistance.
Sitting with desire. Exquisite.
Luxuriating in the friction between contentedness and longing.
The tension between both craving the knowing and reveling in the mystery.
Giving voice to the inner child, the angsty teen, the lost twenty-something. Honoring their experience. Giving space for their wisdom.
Awakening to the revelation that maybe the path not taken was only the path deferred.
The dissonance between simultaneously wanting to hide and wanting to be witnessed.
Untangling old stories.
Layered longings.
Psychic inheritance.
Seeing myself.
Allowing myself to be seen.
Stepping up.
Stepping in.
And I love how time collapses. How 20 years of creation comes together in a moment. How nothing is wasted. All the works that came before - physical and otherwise - are being composted and creating a rich and fertile ground.
