Using a Surrogate

I spoke about this song in the video by Pink Martini that inspired me to call Max a little tomato. When I was pregnant I had a blog and called it the same name as this song. I've been going to see Pink Martini live for years and years. Once of my favorites. Max has been on stage a few times dancing with the band. My little tomato just melts my heart. Now I use the tomato as the surrogate for Max in my work.
A surrogate is when you use someone or something else to stand in to represent you.
It's also when you use something or someone to represent someone else.
It could be a photo of the person.
It could be a photo out of a magazine, A paper doll, a piece of fruit, a .... There are so many things - you can really think about what it is that works to really represent that person.
I've used other people to stand in as me so that I can be the creative director of the image.
I'm going to post some of my images here so you can see a few ways I've done this in the past:

I thought this chess piece was Max…But it might be me…Still allowing it to speak back to me…
